General English Courses are ideal for those wishing to improve or brush up on their English language skills but don't need to prepare for examinations or business purposes.
Semi-Intensive (15 hours per week)
Our General English Semi-Intensive course consists of 15 hours per week of English language tuition focusing on all areas of the English language; speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary & pronunciation. Your teacher will use a class course book every day which will also be supplemented with additional resource materials and practice activities and your teacher will give you homework every day. You will learn to develop your confidence in using English through communicative games, role plays, pairwork and groupwork exercises. Semi-Intensive courses are 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, and you may choose to study from 1 week to 48 weeks. Semi-Intensive courses are offered at all levels from elementary to upper-intermediate.

Intensive (20 hours per week)
Our General English Intensive course consists of 15 hours per week of English language tuition focusing on all areas of the English language; speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary & pronunciation. Your teacher will use a class course book every day which will also be supplemented with additional resource materials and practice activities and your teacher will give you homework every day. You will learn to develop your confidence in using English through communicative games, role plays, pairwork and groupwork exercises. You will also study an additional 5 hours per week of skills class where you will have the opportunity to work on areas such as developing your conversational English, improve your writing skills, learn useful skills like CV writing and interview techniques and learn about English for travel & tourism. Intensive courses are 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, and you may choose to study from 1 week to 48 weeks. Intensive courses are offered ar all levels from elementary to upper-intermediate.

Super-Intensive (30 hours per week)
Our General English Super-Intensive course consists of 30 hours per week of English language tuition focusing on all areas of the English language; speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary & pronunciation. Your teacher will use a class course book every day which will also be supplemented with additional resource materials and practice activities and your teacher will give you homework every day. You will learn to develop your confidence in using English through communicative games, role plays, pairwork and groupwork exercises. Super-Intensive courses are ideal for those who wish to make rapid progress in a limited period of time. Due to the demanding nature of our Super-Intensive course, CL English recommends you choose a course of no more than 12 weeks. Super-Intensive courses are 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, and you may choose to study from 1 week to 12 weeks. Super-Intensive courses are offered at all levels from pre-intermediate to upper-intermediate.

Skills Classes (5 hours per week)
Our Skills Classes form part of our Intensive Course and are for 1 hour per day from Monday to Friday as follows:
Monday
Conversation & Fluency Workshops concentrate on both listening & speaking skills with a specific focus on developing fluency in natural spoken English through practice activities to improve pronunciation, stress, rhythm and intonation as well as on functional English, appropriacy of style and register, discussion skills, problem-solving and ranking activities and communication strategies. In these workshops, students are are also encouraged to develop their vocabulary knowledge through activities designed specifically to promote vocabulary extension through the study of idiomatic expressions, colloquialisms and vocabulary families and roots.
Tuesday
Grammar workshops help to improve students' understanding of the English language by analysing grammatical structures and their uses. Close attention is paid to the control of grammatical forms through a range of controlled activity types as well free practice activities which allow students to experiment with language points in a more creative manner, involving role-play and simulation, information gap and communicative tasks, and problem-solving activities.
Wednesday
Study Skills Workshops permit students to focus on any particular areas of weakness unique to them with the support and guidance of one of our mother tongue teachers of English. During these workshops, students are invited to suggest areas of study they would like to repeat or clarify as well as learn how to improve their personal study skills.
Thursday
Writing workshops help students develop their confidence and skills in using written English with a specific focus on style and register, formal versus informal writing, paragraph development, topic sentences, linking devices, coherence and cohesion, analysis of text types, note-taking skills, academic writing and distinguishing between various types of written text.
Friday
English for Work Purposes classes are designed to help students familiarise themselves with the world of work in London by helping them with skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, jobhunting skills and vocabulary and speaking skills within industry-specific topic areas such as English for Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Business & Commercial English, Advertising & Marketing, International Trade etc. Your teacher will use a variety of up to date course materials and supplementary exercises & activities, newspaper articles, film/video/radio clips, music & songs and puzzles. Skills classes are offered at all levels from elementary to advanced.
